Weathering a Storm of Scattered Energy

✏️Editor’s Note:
How can energy healers regain focus when they feel scattered or overwhelmed?

Start with simple things you can control: review the foundations of your practice, organize your space, prioritize rest, and break bigger tasks into manageable steps.

In this article, Julie Bartrum shares approachable ways energy healers can regain their footing when life, business, and the world around them start to feel like too much.

spring stormI live in a part of the country that sees violent spring storms. While we’re raised with the mantra “don’t be scared, be prepared,” my nervous system calls “poppycock” (or worse) and rattles on in complete disarray until the sirens stop. But the rattle has an echo, and add to it the noise of news, social media, daily living, and more, and the rattle becomes a disruption that turns distraction into scatter.

My energy and thoughts are so scattered, I’m unable to concentrate…I even go from tab to tab on my computer, opening dozens, and making my computer as confused as I feel!

Everything gets started, and nothing gets done.

I doubt any of us are immune to this cognitive overload, yet energy healers have more tools than most to stabilize their biofield and restore their energy.

But does focus always follow? How do we manage the scattered mind?

“The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind.”
– Carolyn Myss

man with scattered thoughtsWhere Should You Start When You’re Feeling Scattered?

During enhanced episodes of scattered energy, there’s more risk in handling our daily living activities and our business practices. We might forget to pay bills or get our driver's license renewed on time.

But for work, I turn to a phrase borrowed from one of my mentors 30 years ago:  "Just be brilliant at the basics.” And so that’s where we start....

  • Review your scope of practice at its core. Is it a simple, clear statement of what you still do? Have you stopped practicing any aspect or added modalities? Take a little time to read it, test it with peers, or even ask AI what it thinks – just for kicks. Sometimes the technical brain can cut through emotional noise and offer a few language tips. But always use your voice for your final statements.

  • Review your forms: intake, client agreement, referrals…have you found areas that have often needed adjustments for clients to understand? Have you left something out – like payment or cancellation terms – that has resulted in disruptions in your practice or issues with a client? Read the client agreement out loud – do you trip over any of the language? If you do, you might mentally be tripping over the explanation when talking with clients, too.

  • Read your code of ethics. A code of ethics provides profound psychological comfort because it replaces moral ambiguity with clarity, predictability, and accountability. Check on things like licensing (if applicable), certification, and insurance. Is everything up to date and sufficient for your current practice?

Running through these basics helps cleanse your mind from any concern about being ‘business-ready.’ These exercises help you replenish your confidence and free your mind to focus on more exciting and fun activities. Then do something just for you….

  • Clean your office or your workspace. Get rid of things that you never use or change things around for a little more convenience, or just a comforting aesthetic. When I’m scatterbrained, I can start to reset just by cleaning up and organizing my desktop icons, or changing the background image for a new view – it’s a personal quirk that makes me feel refreshed.

  • Energy healers talk a lot about self-care, but even finding the right path for that can be confusing when feeling scattered, so just start with rest and meditation, easy movement, and deep breathing.

"It's very important that we relearn the art of resting and relaxing."
— Thich Nhat Hanh

  • Take a few moments to be inspired. You’re never alone; others are feeling the same, so jot down a few phrases or quotes that bring you comfort or peace. Remind yourself of what’s good, what you’re grateful for.

“To feel grateful is one of the most important experiences we need as humans.
When we feel it, there is an acceptance of everything in our life.”
– Barbara Brennan

Some of these things may seem too basic - but you’d be surprised how revisiting your foundation helps ground your mind and is the first step to a safe practice.

man organizing his desk ready for workHow Can You Tackle Bigger Business Tasks When You Feel Overwhelmed?

Sometimes we have more complex tasks in front of us while restoring our energy and equilibrium – and your business can’t wait for all the distractions to clear. I picked three big topics that practitioners tell me are on their minds… and offer some tips to be centered and safe:

computer iconMarketing – You need to find more clients to pay the bills.
  • Networking – You want to network, but the effort seems insurmountable with everything else going on. Keep in mind that networking can be a group of people with whom you are already socializing. What groups do you gather with? Maybe it’s a book, a garden, or a hiking club? People are interested in each other, and letting them know what you do, or offering a demonstration, is a great way to touch more potential clients without adding stress of a new group or the structure of a weekly business network.

  • Language – Do you have a tough time writing website or social media content for your work? Look at your scope of practice, and think about the essence of what you do. What is the question a client would ask that is answered by your services? An example might be, Would clearing my energy help me break my pattern of bad habits? Avoid using any medical terms that bring trouble, like ‘treat, cure, prevent, or heal.’

If using a testimonial, you may need to gently guide your client so they don’t use misleading language to describe your services, either. Make no claims that aren’t supported by proven scientific research. If you use their testimonial in your marketing, you are responsible for what they say – so keep it simple and supportive of your energy work.

Research – You want to use research to talk about your work, but it’s so complex.
  • Start Small - There’s amazing research right now about complementary energy healing in conjunction with cancer treatments, Fibromyalgia relief, anxiety relief, and pain management. First, search for the latest research. Information a decade old is relative, but doesn’t have the impact of what’s happening now.

  • Use a Credible Source - Be sure that the report is coming from a very credible research source.

  • Summarize - Offer an existing summary of the findings. Credit your source and provide a link to the report or summary. You don’t have to prove it or explain it; just providing facts about what’s happening offers great credibility and awareness for our industry. It also keeps you safe from client misunderstandings about the claims.

Artificial Intelligence – AI

It’s affecting all of us in some way, so I purposely want to touch on a ‘big’ subject in a few small ways that show you how to start managing a dialogue safely – whether with yourself or others.

Determine your area(s) of interest…do you want to use AI to write or create? Are you interested in how AI is being integrated into energy healing modalities? Or the philosophical debate about how these forces impact the human biofield, intuition, and spiritual alignment?

  •  Writing and Creating – Discovering the capabilities of ChatGPT or Claude can be fun and overwhelming, so implement a few simple rules:
    • Use it for ideas and organization of your content, but never allow it to be your sole voice. It’s a tool; it doesn’t replace what you have to say about your energy work and, more importantly, the essence of you.

    • Always ask if the content you want to create is in line with licensing or business laws and regulations that pertain to your modality or location.

    • Ask if anything you’ve created infringes upon copyright material on the subject.

    • If using facts or research, independently verify the sources and information before using, and cite your sources.

  • AI in Energy Healing - It’s here and growing. According to Dr. Varsha Grover, “In energy and biofield medicine, AI is most prevalent in biosensor and biofield diagnostics, personalized neurofeedback, and vibrational sound therapy. Rather than replacing human energy practitioners, AI analyzes massive biological datasets to optimize and customize subtle energy balancing techniques.”1 But how do you get a start absorbing this information in manageable bites?
    • Choose one or two select professional organizations to follow to get a feel for what’s going on. ACEP (Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology) and IONS (Institute of Noetic Sciences) are organizations that are industry leaders in exploring how consciousness, non-local healing, and artificial intelligence interact.

    • These organizations can give you insight into the different views while providing highly complementary information. While ACEP tackles the debate from a grounded, clinical perspective - focusing on how AI alters human therapy and practitioner ethics - IONS views it from a cosmic, metaphysical perspective, questioning if AI can interact with the quantum fabric of consciousness itself.

"Human Super Senses receive the signal. We are the antennae. AI amplifies, organizes, and documents that signal... The collaboration produces something neither could achieve alone."
— Peggy Liu, Energy Documentarian

man with organized thoughtsFinding Your Focus and Balance Again

My thoughts about the reset and restoring of energy this issue are all about you…finding ways to manage your practice safely while juggling the extra energetic work of re-establishing your focus and balance. I hope these thoughts and tips give you some tools to tackle it, whether the brilliant basics or the exciting complexities.

Just as I remind myself every spring, the storm will pass - and when it does, you'll be steadier, sharper, and more centered than before. Be well.

✏️Editor’s Note:
Feeling scattered doesn’t mean you need to tackle everything at once. Return to the foundations of your energy healing practice, take care of your own energy and focus, and approach bigger challenges one manageable step at a time.

The goal isn’t to eliminate every distraction—it’s to create enough steadiness to keep moving forward safely and confidently.
