“I work in a few different places—am I still covered?”
It’s a smart question. Energy practitioners often work in more than one setting—especially when your business grows. Maybe you see clients in your home office, rent a space on weekends, or travel for the occasional retreat.
But does your liability insurance follow you from one space to another—or stop at a single address?
In this article, we’ll give you a quick walk-through on how EMPA coverage works when your practice takes place in multiple locations.
Your EMPA liability policy is designed to be flexible—because we know your work doesn’t always happen in the same room, building, or even city.
The key principle is this: Your insurance follows you as the practitioner, not the physical location where you’re working.
So whether you’re seeing clients in:
—you’re still covered, as long as:
This gives you the freedom to build your practice in the way that works for you—without having to worry about moving paperwork every time you shift your schedule or take on a new rental space.
Nope. EMPA doesn’t require you to submit a list of practice locations. What matters is that your services stay consistent and within your approved scope of practice. That said, if you’re renting space to work from—whether it’s shared with another provider or not—it’s worth checking whether the property or its owner needs to be named as an additional insured. Learn more about adding an additional insured to your policy here.
As long as you are practicing within the United States, you have coverage—provided you are compliant with the state laws and regulations of each state in which you are practicing.
Some modalities, such as massage therapy and hypnosis, fall under state licensure or regulation. EMPA does cover these modalities, but you must be appropriately licensed and in compliance with local and state requirements. You can view the full list of covered and additional modalities by clicking the link!
Most massage licenses are state-specific, and touch laws for energy work can also vary. If you are licensed in one state but not another, you would not be covered for licensed services performed outside your licensed jurisdiction.
If you’re unsure how your modality is regulated, we recommend reviewing your applicable state and local statutes and contacting your state licensing board or consulting a local attorney to thoroughly review and understand the laws that apply to your practice.
Not at all. You’re covered whether you own the building, rent a room, or show up with your massage table to a client’s home. The policy follows you—not the property.
Remote or distance sessions are covered! Whether you’re working by phone, video, or energetically from a distance, you’re covered as long as you (the practitioner) are located within the United States. Your clients, however, can be located anywhere.
One of the best things about being an energy practitioner is the freedom to shape your work in a way that fits your life. Whether you’re offering sessions from your home, a shared space, or even on the road, your EMPA coverage is built to go with you.
